Ian Jones
Ian is co-Founder and Partner of Magnesium Capital. He has over 25 years’ experience in private equity, with an exceptional investment track record in technology-related businesses.
Before founding Magnesium Capital, Ian was an equity partner at Apax Partners, the London-based buyout firm with over $40 billion in assets under management. He joined Apax in 1997 and later became a member of the six-person International Investment Committee, Exit Committee and Portfolio Review Committee which oversaw all of Apax’s investment activity globally.
Ian has an MA in Maths & Computer Science from King’s College, Cambridge where he is an Honorary Fellow, and an MBA from Warwick Business School. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant.
Matts Lundgren
Matts is co-Founder and Partner of Magnesium Capital. He has over 30 years’ operating experience in the energy, technology and industrial sectors, with both public and private equity owned businesses.
After 15 years with technology company ABB in a number of global senior management positions based in Europe and Asia, Matts joined global technology company Invensys in 1999. In 2004 he became the CEO of Hansen Transmissions, a global supplier of large-scale gearboxes for wind turbines owned by Invensys. He met Ian in 2004 when Apax Partners acquired Hansen Transmissions in a management buy-out. Following the successful sale of Hansen in 2006, Matts became a Managing Director at Allianz Capital’s Energy group and later joined Ian at Apax as an Operating Partner.
Matts has an Electrical Engineering degree from Rinmansskolan Eskilstuna in Sweden and graduated from Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
Alfonso Vazquez Caro
Alfonso brings extensive industry and investment experience to Magnesium Capital. Before joining Magnesium, he spent 9 years at the leading wind energy company Vestas Wind Systems where he held a number of positions in finance, operations and business development. In addition to overseeing a number of transactions with aggregate generation capacity > 1.5GWs, he oversaw a new ventures and innovation team tasked with establishing technology and commercial partnerships globally.
Since joining Magnesium Capital in 2017, Alfonso focuses on origination and execution of investments as well as working closely with our portfolio companies. He currently sits on the board of Embriq and Rope Partner.
Alfonso has a B.Sc in Economics & Finance from Bentley University in the US, a Masters of International Business from EAE Business School in Spain and an MBA from INSEAD in France.
Daniel Wild
Daniel has held a number of investment management positions with both family office and institutional investors, most notably within Dubai International Capital’s European portfolio team where he was responsible for a number of successful investments and realisations. Prior to DIC, he gained experience with Ernst & Young and Deloitte in both the UK and Middle East, focusing on transaction support and M&A.
Daniel graduated from Nottingham University with a BA in Economics. He is a qualified chartered accountant.
Tom Peterson
Prior to joining Magnesium, Tom worked within Ernst & Young’s Transaction Diligence practice in both London and Brisbane, gaining extensive exposure to the energy and resources space for both private equity and corporate clients.
Tom’s responsibilities include working with the broader team in sourcing, performing analysis & due diligence and executing on transactions.
Tom has a Bachelor in Commerce from the University of Queensland and is also a qualified Chartered Accountant.
Jean-Philippe Lardenais
Prior to joining Magnesium, Jean-Philippe worked at Arma Partners in London, advising European technology and software companies on M&A and capital raises. Previously, Jean-Philippe worked at R.W. Baird in London, focusing on tech-enabled and business services M&A.
Jean-Philippe holds an MSc in Finance from ESCE Paris.
Tarah White
Tarah has over 26 years of experience within financial services, starting out as a Fund Managers Assistant at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and then as a Relationship Manager at DrKW.
She joined Apax Partners in 2004, where she spent 14 years in various roles from Operations to Investor Relations and latterly as their Global Events Manager.
Before joining Magnesium Capital in 2022, Tarah spent 5 years with Advent International as their London Operations Manager.
